Our History
B3 (Batho Batsho Bakopane) was founded in 1991 in the East of
Johannesburg by visionary Black business professionals at a time when
South Africa’s insurance industry was dominated by large monopolies.
Identifying a gap created by the under-marketing of funeral policies, B3
repositioned its offerings to focus on funeral insurance, reshaping and
setting new standards within the sector.
By the mid-1990s, the company expanded into funeral services, guided by
values of humanity, dignity, respect, integrity, and Ubuntu. Between 2000
and 2010, B3 experienced significant growth, pioneering burial service
trends that continue to influence the industry today.
Post-2010, B3 expanded regionally into the SADC market, including the
establishment of B3 Swaziland, while strengthening its local presence.
